Free bike rides for women

SUPPORT to help more women discover the joys of cycling has come to Annan and will soon start in Dumfries through the Breeze cycling initiative from Scottish and British Cycling.

Breeze offers free, friendly, and supportive bike rides, all led by women.

And you can join the Breeze Champion volunteer ride leaders for an easy-going cycle ride, by signing up on the Let’s Ride website.

Claire Martin, volunteer Breeze Champion and area co-ordinator for south-west Scotland, said: “I am looking forward to leading this cycle ride with Sue Hodgson and Jen Swan. It is the third Breeze ride we have organised in Annan. We led our first ride in February and had three women participate. Our second ride in March had four women participate, so we are delighted to know that demand is growing and that women enjoyed the cycle rides and came back a second time.

“Jen and Sue are planning cycle routes in Dumfries for Breeze rides in the coming spring months now that the nights are getting longer and weather is improving.”

Claire added: “Last year we ran our third Breeze Champion training course in Dumfries, supporting a group of women to become volunteer Breeze Champions. I am delighted we now have volunteers organising rides in different places across the region, including: Wigtown, Newton Stewart, New Galloway, Castle Douglas, Dumfries, Thornhill and Annan.

“We are planning to run a further Breeze Champion training course this spring any woman interested in this free training course in order to lead cycle rides can register her interest at www.letsride.co.uk/beachampion.”

Breeze, is part of a suite of programmes and support from Scottish and British Cycling, designed to help and inspire people of all ages and abilities to get back on their bikes. For more information visit www.letsride.co.uk
