Frontrunners emerge in curling champs round-robin
IN THE MIX . . . Team Mouat are aiming high at the Scottish Curling Championships

LAST year’s finalists have emerged as some of the frontrunners at Dumfries Ice Bowl this week in the Hardie Engineering Scottish Curling Championships.

As the round-robin section nears its end, in the women’s section, last year’s winners Team Henderson and runners up Team Morrison remained the only two teams with 100 per cent records after winning four out of four.

The two undefeated teams were due to go head-to-head in their final group stage game before the semi finals on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the men’s event, three teams have pulled clear of the pack, including last year’s finalists skipped by Ross Whyte, the defending champions and James Craik.

Having missed out on the final last year, after winning the event the previous four times they had played in it, the world number one ranked quartet Team Mouat are settling in to the task.

Speaking to British Curling, skip Bruce Mouat said: “We’re really enjoying the ice, the arena’s looking really nice again and there have been some good games so far.

“We’ve got some tough games towards the end of the round-robin, so it’s good to have built some momentum heading into those.”

The women’s and men’s semis and final is today, whilst the men’s final is on Saturday.
