A SUMMER of fun is on the cards for young people as £135,000 is being given as funding by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
The money will be available to local third sector organisations and childcare providers who wish to provide free activities to children and young people aged 5-14 during the summer holidays.
This announcement comes following the success of the previous fund in 2021, which allowed young people to socialise and meet with and make friends across the region, despite the ongoing impact of covid-19.
The council is hoping to see a range of different activities that will broaden the horizons of young people and encourage them to play and reconnect with their local communities and environments.
A spokesperson said: “This funding opportunity for our third sector partners and childcare providers continues our commitment as a local authority to ensuring all of our children and young people have the best start in life, with opportunity to access play and social activities that are vital to their physical and mental wellbeing.
“We are pleased to be working in partnership with all of our third sector partners and local businesses as well as our children and young people.
“We want to support as many groups as possible to help make this a truly amazing summer holiday for our local children and young people.”
Applications are open now and the closing date for submissions from interested organisations is May 23 at noon. Application forms can be downloaded by visiting www.dumgal.gov.uk/grants.
