Funnyman Ruaridh is top banana

A COMEDIAN from Dumfries this week won an award in Edinburgh after being voted the funniest of five acts.

Ruaridh Miller, 23, is still making his first steps in the world of stand-up comedy.
And his performance on Wednesday evening was only his second set ever, but the audience at The Monkey Barrel Comedy Club voted him ‘Top Banana’ in the New Act Competition.
Ruaridh said: “Stand-up comedy is something I’ve wanted to give a go for a long time, and I’m just glad everyone seemed to enjoy it.
“The Monkey Barrel hasn’t been open too long, but it’s going from strength to strength. I hope people continue going along as loads of actual funny people perform there. Don’t let the fact I was there put you off!”
Ben Verth from The Monkey Barrel said: “Our New Act Competition is the first place we can start nurturing talent for our shows, and as Ruaridh was the best of the night, he wins the chance to be one of our spotlight acts.
“He is now on our radar, and we believe Ruaridh has the potential to work towards one of our weekend flagship shows.”
