Gala call to teens!

TEENAGERS in Lockerbie are being encouraged to come on board with a new gala division.

The existing committee has been approached by some young people in the town who are keen to get involved with the Gala and Riding of the Marches, and so the ‘Lockerbie Gala Teen Initiative’ is being launched as a branch of the main group.

The idea is to get teenagers in the town to help and support the summer event, and ensure its success for future generations.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Jen McLeod said: “Gala day is a fantastic, fun day which we all enjoy but it takes a lot of organising and fundraising behind the scenes and we would like to encourage new faces to join.”

The teen initiative is open to young people aged 14 to 18 who are keen to lend a hand at events and who can combine the gala traditions with new ideas.

Jen added: “We are open to suggestions of fundraising ideas and activities, but this initiative will also give the participants an opportunity to develop ideas, presentation skills, learn how to event plan and it can count towards any volunteering programmes.

“Also, being involved in community activities is a great addition to any CV.”

The first meeting will take place on Wednesday April 27 at 6 pm in the Hawthorn Room of Lockerbie Town Hall.

All are welcome to attend, and parents can come along too for further details but this is not essential.
