Galloway Gazette joins the DNG group

DNG Media Group based in Annan is pleased to announce that it has taken over the publishing of the Galloway Gazette from National World.

The change is part of a swap deal whereby National World has acquired Bann Media Ltd which publishes the Banbridge Chronicle in Northern Ireland and was owed by Medquest Group Ltd which owns the DNG Media Group.

Managing director of DNG Media Peter Laidlaw said this week that the Galloway Gazette was a very good fit with the rest of the group and would allow for more extensive coverage of South West Scotland, both in print and digital.

Mr Laidlaw added that the existing Gazette website would be replaced by the company’s long established DNG 24 site.

He continued: “This is a period of very rapid change within the weekly newspaper industry as it copes with the impact of the digital revolution, the covid crisis and the war in the Ukraine.”

He said that there were clearly very significant challenges but there were opportunities too.

In terms of editorial coverage, Mr Laidlaw said that DNG Media had a strong team led by editor Fiona Reid.

He added: “We will continue to build on the editorial strengths and group resources that we have and we believe that in local independent ownership we can expand the range of the existing title.

“In that regard, I would encourage the local community to get in touch with our reporters via email at [email protected].

DNG Media are the publishers of the Dumfries Courier, Annandale Herald, Moffat News, Annandale Observer and Galloway Gazette.
