GB call up for Mollie
ICE HOCKEY SUCCESS . . . Mollie Walker will represent Great Britain this weekend

DUMFRIES Academy pupil Mollie Walker has been selected for the Great Britain Girls U16 Ice Hockey team to play in games against the Netherlands this Saturday and Sunday.

Last weekend marked ten years since the 14-year-old stepped on the ice with a stick for a taster learn to play session at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

Mollie has played with the Solway Shark Juniors for years, as well as training and playing with the Solway Sharks Ladies adult team and also coming to the end of her first season with the Caledonian Iron Maidens U16 Girls.

On a national level Mollie has played with the England National side, which took her all over the UK and to Quebec for two weeks to play in the World International Peewee tournament.

She watched her first GB game at Dumfries back in 2019 where she was captivated and told many a team member when she met them on the ice that she ‘would play for GB when she is older’.

She has gone on to volunteer at the women’s world tournaments since then.

Caledonian Iron Maidens coach Richard Gray said: “For any casual fan to hockey, it’s clear Mollie has tremendous skills, but as a coach her attitude and hockey IQ make her an invaluable asset to any team. “She’s dedicated and deserves such praise for everything she has achieved.”

Bob Chalmers coaches Mollie at Solway Shark Juniors, he added: “Everyone at the Solway Sharks Junior Ice Hockey Club is immensely proud of Mollie for earning a spot on the GB U16 Girls team.

“Her commitment and relentless effort have brought her to this remarkable achievement, and we are confident she will excel when she steps on the ice with the national team jersey on.”
