Hairdresser's fears over public toilet spot

A HAIRDRESSER in Gretna fears the potential location for public toilets may impact on her business.

Alison Doyle has ran her successful hair salon on Kirtle Place for 13 years and agrees that Gretna is in need of toilets.
But she was “dismayed” when she learned that the proposed location was the customer service centre adjoining her hairdressers — which has received support and backing by councillors and a number of locals.
Alison said: “I do understand the need for toilets — I get asked constantly by visitors as to their whereabouts and constantly allow them to use the toilet in my shop.
“I just wonder if the proposed site is the most suitable, given as it is a mostly residential area and there is a lack of parking.”
She added: “My main concern is for the potential vandalism that seems go hand-in-hand with public toilets, giving young people a venue to congregate.
“I know this may sound very negative but we already have vandalism problems in this area of Gretna and as well as being concerned for my premises, I am also concerned for the residents of the Barracks and Kirtle Place.”
