Girl, 14, assaulted in town centre

AN ASSAULT on a 14-year-old girl has left her hospitalised.

Now police in Dumfries are appealing for witnesses after the girl was assaulted in Buccleuch Street / Park Lane area of the town centre around 9.50 pm on Thursday April 12.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who saw three or four youths, aged between 14 and 17 standing in Park Lane or on the Greensands around this time.

Constable Jordon Jamieson said: “Park lane is located at the top of the Whitesands, next to Buccleuch Street and it’s likely members of the public may have witnessed some or all of the attack as they waited in traffic or walked along the Greensands.

“We will be reviewing CCTV however, I would be keen to hear from anyone that saw any youths in that area around 9:50pm or anyone who feels they may be able to assist the police investigation.”

He added: “Thankfully, on this occasion, the victim of the assault was taken to DGRI and found to have suffered only minor injuries as a result of the assault.”
