TEACHERS, staff, pupils and families are delighted to be back in Beattock Primary School.
Last week’s return to school was particularly special in the village as it marked the end of unexpected, and controversial, repairs to the building.
The children were moved to school and nursery in Moffat during the Easter holidays of 2023 after a series of issues relating to water ingress and damage were found in the roof at Beattock and it was hurriedly closed by the council.
They have now been sorted, at a cost of £1.8 million, and the primary was cleared to reopen for the new academic year, with a new roof, as well as new floors, lighting and furniture. In another fresh start, Beattock has also entered into a new partnership with Johnstonebridge Primary.
Joint headteacher Evonne Cameron yesterday said: “As a school community, we are absolutely delighted to have Beattock Primary School open and to have an excited buzz back in the building.
“The pupils, families and staff team have been amazing, showing huge resilience and patience while the works have been going on in and around the school. They have all welcomed me as their new headteacher with open arms during such a challenging and uncertain time, which is very much appreciated.
“Everyone at Beattock Primary School is now looking forward to the year ahead, back home in their own building, as we move forward together.”
