ANNAN target man Tommy Goss’ goals helped the Black and Golds to a resounding win on Saturday against Bonnyrigg and he hopes the team can now push on and manage to go one further than they did last season.
The in-form Dumfries striker proved too hot to handle for the Bonnyrigg back-line as he scored a double before being substituted as Annan ran out convincing 4-0 winners at Galabank.
Although it could have ended with a different outcome as the forward admitted he was a doubt for the game after rolling his ankle in training.
Speaking after the victory, Goss said: “I’m delighted with the goals.
“I actually rolled my ankle on Thursday night. I had it strapped up today and I didn’t think I was going to play.
“I was a major doubt. But luckily I was in a training day (on Friday) at my work so I got to elevate it all day.
“The adrenaline gets you through it.”
Goss is firmly cementing himself as one of League Two’s most clinical finishers. His brace made it 19 goals in all competitions so far for the campaign. He is now the joint top goalscorer alongside Elgin hitman Kane Hester with 15 goals.
But before he could start thinking about taking home the match ball he was substituted – not for the first time when on a hat-trick.
“The gaffer did it to me twice last year!
“I finished last season on 13 (goals), my target at the start of this season was to hit the 20 goal mark.
“I think I’m on 19 all in (so far), but I’ll just see where it goes.”
On Aidan Smith equalling Peter Weatherson’s record, Goss added: “That’s brilliant for Aidan. He had a brilliant game today – he did brilliant for Max’s goal and he got one himself – it’s good to play up front with him.”
After falling at the final hurdle last season, Goss hopes this year can be the one where something special happens at Galabank. He said: “We got to the play-off final last year so anything under that is not good enough for us.
“We were really disappointed not to go up last year, we got to the final and played well.
“Hopefully this year is our year and we can end the season on a high.”
