The first spot kick after 26 minutes seemed soft with both sets of spectators somewhat puzzled about the decision given by the referee. James Berry made no mistake from 12 yards and put Stirling one up.

There was less debate surrounding the second penalty awarded to the home side on the stroke of half time. Berry slotted away, again for his second of the afternoon.

The second half was a half of few opportunities with Stirling dominating possession but producing little by way of title credentials.

Dan Carmichael tirelessly led the line up front and got a further 75 minutes of competitive action.

Speaking after the match, assistant manager Robbie Park said: “The lads were unlucky to be undone by two penalties at the weekend against a quality side.

“Chris (Geddes) and his staff have wonderful patterns of play and you can see why they are still involved in eight competitions this year.

“We worked on man-to-man defending in training on Wednesday in preparation for the game and it showed with the lack of clear cut chances created by Stirling.

“Our positives from the game include significant minutes for our younger players and Dan Carmichael, who were able to build on their match fitness. We look forward to having some senior players returning to training this week for the home fixture against East Stirlingshire, where we hope to see many fans in attendance again.”

The club will also pay tribute to former goalkeeper Derek Turnbull on Saturday when they entertain East Stirlingshire, helping him and his family celebrate his 89th birthday. Derek played for Gretna FC in the 1960s.
