WINNING WAYS . . . Gus and Pamela Power from Gretna with their winning pigeon ‘Jorgie Girl’ and a collection of trophies
The couple, who live at Woodside Holdings, are ‘over the moon’ after lifting the Blue Riband Race trophy in Scotland.
It was their five-year-old pigeon ‘Jeorgie Girl’ that won gold for the pigeon racing mad couple.
Although the 480-mile race from Alencon in France was in June, they were only presented with their trophies at a national ceremony held at the Glenhill Hotel, Renfrew, last weekend.
Gus also revealed that ‘Jeorgie Girl’ was runner-up in the same race last year.
He said: “She’s tremendous and we’re just ‘over the moon’ after winning. The trophy is so valuable that you don’t get bringing it home, but we were presented with two others so it was a great night. There was quite a number of Annan club members at the event so it was good.”
He added: “I keep saying that we’re always the bridesmaid, but this time we’ve really cracked it this time and won the big one.”
The couple have around 150 pigeons of all ages at their loft at Gretna, and Gus said: “I’ve had pigeons all my life but this is the first time I’ve won this trophy, although it has come to this area in the past on rare occasions.”
