Gretna held to draw at Raydale

GRETNA FC 2008 were made to settle for a point against Stirling University, despite leading 3-1 with 15 minutes left on the clock.

The scholars took the lead at Raydale, fell behind and then fought back late on to ensure they earned a share of the spoils.

Finn Moffett broke the deadlock for the away side on 16 minutes when he slotted past Jim Atkinson after being played through on goal.

Iain Anderson soon equalised for the Black and Whites just after the half hour with a header from a corner.

The scoreline was turned on its head after Gretna quickly won back possession and broke up the field, Dean Brotherston finding the net on this occasion.

Ten minutes into the second half Gretna increased their advantage as Brotherston fired home his second at the back post following a low cross.

The University made a number of substitutions to try and find a way back into the contest.

And that they did as Sam Martin pulled one back with 14 minutes to play following a scramble in the box.

Less than ten minutes later Stirling equalised, Moffett grabbed his brace as he finished off a great passage of play.

Speaking after the match, Gretna boss Vinnie Parker said: “We’re 3-1 up and we lose two goals. It’s massively disappointing.

“We scored three goals today, we just couldn’t keep the ball out the back of our net.

“(But) it’s a point, another point on the scoreboard towards our 40 point target that we’ve placed on ourselves.”

This weekend Gretna make the journey to Tranent, Parker added: “It’s going to be a tough game, they’re a really good outfit.

“Every time we go away it’s hard, but our away form has been good.”
