Gretna kick-off pre-season

Lewis Sloan put the hosts in front with a close range header before the same man mistimed a tackle minutes later to give away a penalty to Gretna, a trialist duly dispatched the spot-kick.

After the game, Gretna manager Bryan Gilfillan spoke to club media, he said: “I’m relatively happy, we’ve assembled a squad of 18 in three weeks which is incredible.

“We’re still three players short of where we really want to be, but it’s not a bad start.”

And on Wednesday night the Black and Whites lost 3-0 in a friendly match against Queen of the South at Palmerston.

They held a strong Doonhamers squad for an hour before Finlay Kennedy managed to score at the near post. Shorty after, one of the Queens trialist’s and Lee Connelly both got on the scoresheet in quick succession.

After the match Gilfillan said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the shape and the formation. I thought we worked really, really, hard. I thought it was night and day compared to Saturday.

“You’re now starting to see a few relationships start to evolve.

“From back to front we were really good.”
