Gretna set for Lowland League opener

THE competitive season is back for Gretna FC 2008 and they will kick off their Lowland League campaign against the University of Stirling at Raydale Park this Saturday.

Manager Stephen Hatfield has added a whole host of players to his squad including defender Sam Gormley, right, who has signed from Leith Athletic.

The Anvils finished their pre-season schedule with a 1-1 draw with Edinburgh United.

And gaffer Hatfield said: “Our pre-season has gone well and the squad is shaping up nicely.

“We have one or two injury concerns ahead of the game, but we will hopefully have one or two new additions to the squad by then.

“The last few seasons have been a bit of a struggle, but I think it’s fair to say there is positivity and optimism around the club now.

“It would be great to see a good crowd at Raydale on Saturday to enjoy some good football.”

Raydale chairman, Alex Thomson added: “It’s hard to believe that the new season is upon us. We have been very busy, with major changes both on and off the pitch.

“Everyone is buzzing to get started and show our supporters what we can do. Here’s hoping for a successful season.”

Tickets for Gretna’s opener against University of Stirling on Saturday July 23, at 3 pm are priced at adults £8, concessions £6, under 16 free of charge. Advance Tickets are available on the Fanbase app, but you can pay at the gate.
