VOLUNTEERS in Gretna have been praised after hosting a soup and pudding lunch to raise funds for Marie Curie during the weekend.
It took place at All Saints Church and was well attended by local people.
South Scotland MSP Colin Smyth is a regular supporter of the group’s work, having met them during a Marie Curie reception in the Scottish Parliament.
He popped along and said: “It was great to be able to get along and support the amazing Gretna Marie Curie fundraising team on Saturday.
“The group work tirelessly to raise vital funds for the charity, while also ensuring anyone attending their events receives a warm welcome — and a tasty lunch!
“I would urge local people to support the forthcoming tea parties the group are holding in Gretna and Rigg.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our communities and it is thanks to their tireless efforts that charities such as Marie Curie can continue their vital work, helping care for those living with terminal illness and supporting their families and carers.”
The Gretna Marie Curie fundraising team are also hosting tea parties on June 17 in the Richard Greenhow Centre in Gretna and July 22 in Mansfield Hall, Rigg, both 10 am-12 pm.
