GREYHOUNDS: Billy beats weather for Gretna sprint win

SCOTS dog Billy Blister clocked 18 seconds to win the 8.30 sprint race at a wet and windy Halcrow Greyhound Stadium, Gretna on Friday night.

The two-year-old dog, owned and trained by Davie Dunbar, led from the first bend on the slow going to win by a length at 5/2.

Runner-up was Conny, a two-year-old 5/2 shot from Buff Douglas’ Stranraer kennels.

In the next sprint trip Danny Boy, a three-year-old border-based dog, took the honours with a 3.75 winning margin.

Owned and trained by Tina Robinson and Basher Carmichael of Greenmill, Longtown, he maintained an early lead to storm home at 2/1.

Next home was Dexter Clark’s veteran Kirkbride four-year-old track veteran Magnet.

Meanwhile, top spots in the open races went to visitors with Kelvin Brown’s Lanarkshire entry Flag earning the sprint prize and Romeo, from the Lewthwaite kennels at Workington, winning the 665 metres race.

The 100 metres dash was won by Cracker from Hyslop of Kilmarnock with the same kennels securing the 470 metres glory with Barny.
