GREYHOUNDS: Friends notch up Derby double

GRETNA hosted the largest greyhound card in the UK on Friday night with 13 races attracting runners from both sides of the border.

The main feature was the opening heats of the ‘Noggs’ 470 metres Gretna Derby which produced spectacular wins for two north Cumbrian fancies Join Account and Mr Loy.

Both owned by the same group of friends, they were well ahead of the main challengers and go through to this Friday night’s final at Halcrow Stadium as firm favourites.

Meanwhile, there was a winning double for regular Gretna owner-trainer Maurice Lawman over the sprint distance.

He notched up victories for both Big Time and Unlock in the 7.45 and 8.15 races on the good going border track.

Finally, racing fans can check on recent form by going online to the DnG24 Gretna racing archive at www.dng24.co.uk/?s=greyhounds
