GREYHOUNDS: Galloway flyer's Autumn triumph

SCOTS flyer Horny Edgar lived up to expectations winning the Autumn Sprint Handicap final at the weekend meeting at Halcrow Greyhound Stadium, Gretna.

The three-year-old dog, owned and trained by Stephen Hornby of Portpatrick, Stranraer led from the first bend on the good going border track.

He crossed the line as favourite with a comfortable 3.5 lengths lead.

Runner-up was 2/1 shot Fanta, a three-year-old bitch, owned and trained by Kelvin Brown of Wishaw, Lanarkshire.

There was a double sprint triumph on the general card for owner-trainer Tom Clark, a Gretna regular, with his entries Park Lane and Pop, both securing comfortable victories in the 7.30 and 8.15 races respectively.

The main feature race at this Friday night’s Gretna meeting is the final of the annual 280 metres ‘Noggs’ Derby.

After carefully reviewing the video footage of the heats and semi-finals, track tipster ‘Becks’ states his money is firmly on Mr Log.

He led as favourite from the opening bend in the 9.15 trip on Friday night to win by an impressive three lengths and if he can maintain that form is well worth consideration.
