GREYHOUNDS: Happy Harry's sprint delight

VETERAN Gretna trainers, brothers Tom and Harry Martindale, celebrated a sprint victory at Halcrow Stadium on Friday night.

Their three-year-old dog Happy Harry led from the first bend to win by two lengths during a shorter than usual race meeting at the border track.

The 4/5 shot, based at the brothers’ north Cumbria kennels, was followed home by Scots rival Oh Golly, a two-year-old dog from the McMillan kennels at Port Glasgow.

There was a dramatic photo-finish over the middle distance.

Sam’s Girl, a three-year-old bitch and 2/1 shot from the Hume kennels at Hawick, was judged to have been a neck ahead on the line.

Runner-up was Flaming Rosie, a three-year-old bitch, owned and trained by Tony Hopper of Workington.
