GREYHOUNDS: Two fancies for festive final

THERE are two main fancies for this Friday night's Christmas Sprint Handicap final at Halcrow Greyhound Stadium, Gretna.

Track tipster ‘Becks’ highlights the two fastest runners, Papa and Diamond Charlie, as the main contenders for the principal feature race.

Papa from Paddy Kennedy of Coatbridge powered home to win by 5.5 lengths on fast going in his heat at last weekend’s meeting.

He clocked 16.97 seconds from the two metres mark ahead of main challenger Tic Tac from Dexter Clark of Kirkbride.

Diamond Charlie, owned and trained by Tony Hopper of Workington, sparkled in the following heat also winning by 5.5 lengths from fellow West Cumbrian trainer Tom Clark’s Park Lane.

Completing the line-up in the festive final will be Franny Hill’s Hawick greyhound Snowie Dream, a 3/1 shot, which crossed the line in a photo-finish in front of Michael Berwick’s Workington runner Little Rascal.

The line-up and handicaps for the final will be Little Rascal, 5 metres; Diamond Charlie, 4; Tic Tac, 3; Snowie Dream, 3; Papa, 2; Park Lane, 2.
