Group pleads for more public engagement

MOFFAT Community Council wants to improve public engagement going forward and are also eager to get younger people involved.

The group’s chairman Liam O’Neill stressed he wants to get more public involvement in the meetings. And one way of doing so is by expanding its public forum.

At the group’s monthly meeting this week, Mr O’Neill admitted he has been disappointed with the number of residents attending the meetings.

He said: “We’ve had an informal meeting looking at how the community council had been operating over the last period.

“We want to get more public involvement in the meetings, try to make meetings more interesting.

“We want to make part of the meeting purely for members of the public to come along, raise any matters relevant to Moffat and see what we can do to resolve it or take things forward.

“We are going to re-jig the agenda for the public to come along.

Making meetings more accessible, getting the younger generation involved and utilising social media.”

Mr O’Neill added: “We need more youth in the community council. We don’t want it to just be older people.

“We need more social media activity and to create a buzz.”

Suggestions included setting up an online forum to allow messages from members of the public; QR codes to make the community council more accessible and using their Facebook page more.
