Group to write to Minister to air windfarm arguments

MOFFAT community councillors will write to the Scottish Government to ensure their arguments are heard about the proposed Scoop Hill windfarm.

Community Windpower Ltd are planning 60 turbines standing 250 metres tall and a battery storage facility approximately five kilometres south east of the town.

Community council Mick Barker asked fellow members to pen the letter to ease concerns that views of the people in last year’s public inquiry will be considered.

Members of the community presented their evidence regarding the 60 turbine scheme at the Town Hall in December.

And on Tuesday night, the group agreed to make sure those views of the Moffat residents from the public inquiry are aired when the case reporter Christopher Warren hands over his recommendation to a Scottish Minister. This is expected to take place by the end of February.

Mr Barker said: “The reporter is expected to make his recommendation by the end of February. The reporter’s recommendation then goes to the minister.

“The minister then makes their own decision either in line with the reporter’s recommendation or against their recommendation. It’s the minister’s call.

“I’m conscious that a number of people contributed to the enquiry and are quite concerned about making sure the minister gets to hear all the arguments and points from the community.

“I’m asking for permission from the community council to write to the minister, with their arguments they’ve put forward.

“We’re hoping to get the support of MSP Oliver Mundell.”

Mr Barker added that behind closed doors discussions are currently taking place between Mr Warren, the windfarm applicant, and the Ministry Of Defence regarding the impact of the windfarm on the Eskdalemuir Seismological Array.
