The organisers of the annual Dumfries festivities have announced ‘with sadness and regret’ that it will not go ahead in June due to covid.
In a statement they said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of the Dumfries community is paramount. In the current climate the committee are unable to guarantee that they could meet the requirements to provide a safe event for 2021, therefore the decision to cancel has been taken.”
Last year’s elected principals will roll their roles over for another year and lead the celebrations in 2022.
And organisers are hoping to be able to hold some online, virtual events instead.
They concluded: “We hope that the coronavirus pandemic will be under control next year for us all to enjoy a safe Guid Nychburris 2022. We look forward to your continued support then.”
