GUID Nychburris is fast approaching and this year’s principals have been announced for the historic event.
Association chairman John Caskie welcomed people to the launch of the festival’s 2025 programme at the The Usual Place last Friday night.
The informal event saw the unveiling of the Cornet Elect, Cornet’s Lass Elect, Queen of the South Elect , Pursuivant Elect and other principal characters who will lead the festivities for Guid Nychburris, which will run from Sunday June 14 through until the big day on Saturday June 21.
Will Black was revealed as Cornet Elect, while Cornet’s Lass Elect will be Lynsey Mundell.

A delighted Will told the Dumfries Courier: “It’s an honour to stand here as the Cornet Elect for 2025.
“It was an absolute privilege to be ask by my good friend Ross Dunbar back in 2022 to be a Lynor, and I’ve not fallen out of the Guid Nychburris way since, it’s something I really enjoy and I look forward to keeping that going.
“For me the highlight of Guid Nychburris week is the installation where all the ex Cornets and Cornet’s Lasses come out because it reminds you of how many people are involved and how it will always bring you back to the town.”
Lynsey added: “I’m looking forward to Guid Nychburris as I have taken part in the rideouts for many years. I’m excited to represent Dumfries, support the town and make lots of memories.
“For me, I’m really looking forward to the ball, it’s always a really good night but I agree that the installation night is the best night.”

Meanwhile, Dumfries High School student Macy True was named as the Queen of the South Elect for this year. Mhairi Chalmers and Lily Barr will be her attendants.
The Lynors for this year are Jack Williamson, Fergus Clanachan, Rory Robertson and Ross Hamlett, with Maureen Johnstone continuing in her role as Provost.
