DEDICATED Girlguiding volunteers from Dumfries and Galloway have been recognised for their commitment.
The group of four were invited to the Girlguiding Scotland Celebrates event in Edinburgh, which included an afternoon tea, entertainment and a speech by Girlguiding UK’s deputy chief guide and adventurer, Sally Kettle. Leading the local contingent was county commissioner Libby Ong, who was given a ‘Role Model’ award and was also a recipient of the Scottish Chief Commissioner’s Award.
County secretary Judy Brierley was recognised as a ‘Supporter’; Kirkcudbright Brownie and Guide leader Becci Vasey was there as a ‘Changemaker’; while Middlebie Rainbows and Brownies leader Linda Owen was also named a ‘Changemaker’.
Commenting, Libby said: “It was an incredible honour to be recognised at Girlguiding Scotland Celebrates.
“To stand representing Dumfries and Galloway and be acknowledged in more than one category was truly humbling.
“The afternoon was filled with inspiration, community spirit and a real sense that every corner of Girlguiding Scotland matters.”
Denise Spence, chief executive of Girlguiding Scotland, said: “The Girlguiding Scotland Celebrates event was a special way for us to say thank you to our brilliant volunteers and show our appreciation for their dedication, passion and positivity.
“Our organisation is powered by volunteers and without them, Girlguiding Scotland would not be able to continue to provide lifechanging experiences and opportunities to our almost 40,000 young members.”
