Gus’ girl completes charity challenge

A FUNDRAISER in memory of a beloved Lockerbie man has raised £2270.

Alison Voss set up Gus’s Charity Challenge to raise funds for Lockerbie Medical Centre, MacMillan Nurses and the specialist palliative care Alexandra Unit at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

It was to thank all of them for their work and support while her dad, Gus Little, was battling metastatic cancer.

Sadly, he passed away in June but she decided to carry on anyway in order to raise money so that other families can receive the same care and support as hers had.

Alison and friend Lynsey Hanlon signed up for the Solway Coast Marathon on June 30 and a week later for the Great Glencoe Challenge on July 6.

Marathon day dawned with perfect weather and they set off from Kirkbride Airfield with 26 miles to go.

Progress was temporarily hampered by a blister at 22 miles but they hobbled over the finish line, to be greeted by Alison’s sister and mum, Angie and Margaret Little, with fizz to celebrate – above.

After a week’s recovery the pair were back in action at what has been dubbed Scotland’s Toughest Trekathon.

They were joined for the 26.2 mile route through the Highlands by Annette Carter and Debbie Semple.

Despite the rain, the quartet ploughed on and crossed the finish line hand in hand, marking the end of the charity challenge.

Alison said: “We would like to thank everyone who has donated to the fundraiser, we are sure the Lockerbie Medical Centre, MacMillan Nurses and the Alexandra Unit will be very grateful for the donations.”
