Hair we go for Ella!

AN EIGHT-year-old is preparing to cut her hair for the first time in her life next week...to donate her long locks to charity.

Ella Howatson from Lockerbie is known for her thigh skimming tresses, having been born withafull head of thick hair, but has decided to cut off 20 inches to make wigs for sick children.

The Lockerbie Primary pupil said: “My papa died in June of this year and Macmillan helped him in his last days so I would love to raise as much as I can and this will hopefully help someone else who needs the special care that these nurses provide.”

Proud mum Christine added: “She is doing it for charity, she wants to be able to help a wee girl who has lost her hair and to raise money for Macmillan, who looked after her papa, Rab Smith, in his last days.”

Ella, who has only ever had her hair trimmed slightly once, hopes to raise as much money as possible and her family are also hosting a special coffee morning in honour of the big chop.

It all takes place next Saturday morning, October 22, at Dryfesdale Church Hall from 10 am-12 noon. Donations of raffle prizes and baking would be appreciated and sponsor forms are dotted around Lockerbie, including at Marchbanks and the Flowerpot.
