FUNDING SECURED . . . the money will help transform Annan Harbour

The investment, which has been hailed by Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell, will help the group realise their vision of transforming the area into a popular visitor attraction.

It will include refurbishment of the B listed Collett’s Building, a new café, meeting space, landscape improvements, including the construction of a new footbridge, to create a new focal point for water sports and activities.

It will also improve the wider economy by bringing many social and economic benefits to Annan.

Mr Mundell has been a supporter from the early days of Annan Harbour Action Group’s ambitious vision of a leisure orientated quayside area as well as enhancing facilities to encourage future commercial use.

The local MP said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the UK Government has now approved £11.9 million Levelling Up funding after carefully examining a bid submitted last year by the hard-working team which is already breathing new life into the harbour area.

“I’m particularly pleased that Ministers gave the green light to uplift funding to help cover some of the extra costs resulting from inflation since the initial bid was lodged.”
