TALENTED apprentices at Cochran, Newbie, have been awarded for their efforts.
Four apprentices, in different trades and different years at the industrial boiler manufacturers, were awarded certificates by factory manager James Johnstone.
First year apprentice of the year went to apprentice electrician Bailey Watt, described as: “Eager to learn and quick to lend a hand” with “a strong work ethic and a great attitude to every job.”
Bailey added: “My dad has worked at Cochran for many years, growing up I heard a lot of stories about working there and as a youngster I wanted a future career at Cochran.”
The second year award was handed to fellow electrical apprentice Max Coupland, who was praised for having “consistently gone above and beyond in his training, demonstrating exceptional technical skill, a strong work ethic, and a natural drive for excellence.”
Max has also been named Electrical Apprentice of the Year by Dumfries and Galloway College.
He said: “I wanted an apprenticeship with Cochran as I wanted to be able to learn different aspects of how to be an electrician while also being able to make money and be in a workplace that would push me.”
Apprentice plater Joe Graham scooped the third year award for “outstanding dedication to his chosen trade from day one.” James highlighted his keen eye for detail, commitment to quality, positive attitude, and eagerness to learn, calling him ‘a standout talent on the shop floor and a valued team member’.
Joe said he chose Cochran to undergo his apprenticeship because of the company’s ‘worldwide reputation for quality’.
The fourth year award went to apprentice welder Todd McMath who “has consistently impressed with his ability to quickly grasp new skills and rise to every challenge. His eagerness to learn, combined with his confidence and can-do attitude, has made him a standout on the shop floor.”
Todd added: “I have enjoyed developing and progressing my welding ability and learning new things every day.”
