WALLACE Hall headteacher Barry Graham has tried something different and spent the day as an apprentice.
He recently participated in “Try Something Different” project by shadowing a stonemason apprentice from Historic Environment Scotland
During the day, he worked on stone carving and visited two historic locations where the stonemasons are active: Sweetheart Abbey and Caerlaverock Castle. He was well supported by Kody Burns, an apprentice, and Johnnie Cunningham, the assistant works manager.
Reflecting on his experience, Mr Graham said: “Taking on the role of an apprentice for a day gave me a fresh perspective on the dedication and skill required in traditional crafts. This unique opportunity not only enriched my understanding of our local heritage but also inspired me to bring practical and creative ideas back to our school community.”
