PEOPLE in Dumfries and Galloway are being encouraged to take part in this year’s Spring Clean Scotland.
The environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful is running its Spring Clean from March 21 to April 21 to combat the country’s litter problem. Last year, 45,000 people joined in on the challenge.
A statistic released reflects that 81 per cent of people want to see increased action to tackle the issue, and the month-long challenge will be a great way for all to get involved.
“No longer can we wait for someone else to pick up the litter we might walk past every day – so we are inviting everyone to organise a litter pick with friends, family, workmates or alone, or to join an event registered on our Clean Up Scotland map,” said Barry Fisher, chief executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful.
So far, 15,000 people have already registered for the event, kicking off Friday. Dumfries and Galloway officials are excited to continue supporting the event, says councillor Ian Blake, the chair of the council’s economy and infrastructure committee. Councillor Blake continues to take pride in Dumfries and Galloway’s commitment to the cause, while encouraging all to continue to sign up.
The message of the month is clear though, even just picking up small bits of litter can make a great difference – preserving Scotland for future generations.
