Helpers needed to keep burgh Xmas lights on

A NEW group is being sought to take on the organising and running of Lochmaben’s Christmas lights.

It comes as the burgh’s gala committee have announced that 2024 will be their last year due to a lack of volunteers and a wish to focus on the gala events instead.

So they are instead looking for others to take on the festive fun.

A public meeting was held last week to gauge interest but turnout was low.

Gala chairperson Kerry-Ann Coupland said: “We were extremely disappointed with the turnout we received.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to the two people who did come along and also to a few other people who have offered their support but were unfortunately unable to attend.”

It was decided at the meeting to hold some fundraisers for the lights, and put out donation tins in shops.

In addition, a go-fund me page has been set up with a £3000 target, and donations are already flooding in.

Kerry-Ann added: “It was agreed that this will be the last year that the gala committee organise the light switch on as we do not have enough volunteers and we want to concentrate on gala events.

“If you are interested in becoming part of the light switch on committee or would like to take this over please get in touch.”

Keep an eye on the new Lochmaben Christmas Lights Facebook page for updates.
