High bills force pool shutdown

KIRKCUDBRIGHT Swimming Pool has closed its doors until further notice as a result of spiralling energy costs.

The community pool closed its doors on Monday due to a lack of funding to pay the heating and electric bills.

Both staff and the community are saddened by the move and a statement posted on the pool’s Facebook page stated: “We have tirelessly tried to avoid this happening but our hands are tied.

“We are so sorry to all our customers, we know how much the building means to everyone that uses it and hopefully we will be able to open again soon! We are all devastated and in disbelief ourselves that it has come to this.”

Community members are now calling for a public meeting to discuss the pool’s closure and in hope that a solution can be found. The date and location of the meeting is still to be decided.
