High Street work to improve traffic flow

DRIVERS may have noticed delays and queues on Annan High Street last week.

Traffic light improvement works were being implemented by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

A council spokesman said: “The council is currently undertaking traffic signals improvement works on Annan High Street. This will allow the junctions at Lady Street, Bank Street and Fish Cross to be properly co-ordinated through the council’s Urban Traffic Control system.

“This will implement SCOOT control at the two junctions, which is an intelligent traffic control system that co-ordinates adjust timings at closely spaced junctions to minimise congestion and queuing. SCOOT is used extensively around the UK for control and co-ordination of traffic signals.

“The system is already in use in Dumfries and bringing it to Annan will help reduce queuing and congestion on the High Street. As the system is brought online over the coming weeks, it will bring noticeable improvements to the operation of the traffic signals at the two junctions.”
