FUNDRAISING CHALLENGE . . . Steve Jack completed the XBorder 10K last weekend

The 49-year-old, from Eastriggs, crossed the finish line at Gretna’s Caledonia Park 1 hour, 35 minutes and 40 seconds after starting at Kingstown.

So far Steve has successfully raised more than £2600 for three-year-old Koda Irving who is currently battling leukaemia.

The money will allow the youngster to enjoy some days out when his health allows.

Steve said: “I was hoping to do the race in an hour and a half, so I wasn’t far off.

“Most of the course was flat, but there were a few bits that were uphill, so that was quite hard. Louise (Steve’s personal trainer) was with me the whole way.”

Steve added: “The final stretch was the hardest bit. You come up a hill, then back down, and then back up into Caledonia Park.

“But hearing everyone clapping and cheering, that kept me going. And seeing Koda and his family at the top with banners and stuff, that helped me get over the line.”

Back in Eastriggs afterwards, Steve headed to the Wayside Inn in for a celebration and a raffle.

Fundraising has now reached over £2600. The JustGiving fundraising page will remain open for a few more days before a final total is announced.

Steve admitted he shed a tear when he got home later that night, he said: “I was just overwhelmed. There were a lot of people there, it was a good night and I’m absolutely delighted with the money raised.”
