History talk in Dumfries

LINKS between Dumfries and Galloway and the Napoleonic Wars will be explored in a free event this week.

Museum curator Judith Hewitt will give a talk at St Michael’s Church on Wednesday night entitled ‘Dumfries and the Napoleonic Wars’, where she will uncover local and unexpected links to the 19th century battles.

From naval heroes such as Sir Pulteney Malcolm to prisoners of war in Sanquhar, there’s a lot to find out about.  The evening concludes with a short walk through the historic churchyard of St Michael’s to visit four graves of those who died at the Battle of Waterloo.

This event has been organised to commemorate the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.  It is part of Dumfries Museum’s exhibition programme, the exhibition is ‘The Ever Changing, Changeless Sea’ which focuses on maritime history, natural history, exploration and the folklore of the sea.
