Queen of the South and Annan Athletic’s matches – alongside other local matches – were postponed last Friday. But the SPFL confirmed during the week that competitive fixtures will take place. There will be a minute’s silence pre-match and players will wear black armbands.
East Fife visit Galabank tomorrow afternoon and both sides have started the season with a mixed bag of results.
The visitors tasted defeat in their last league game against top of the table Dumbarton, The Sons have won all six opening games as they aim for a rapid return to League One.
Meanwhile, the Black and Golds will be hoping that they can carry on their good run of form into the game after a Tommy Goss double ensured Annan the three points against Forfar at Galabank in their last outing after a spirited performance against Aberdeen in the Premier Sports Cup.
Annan fans will be glad to hear that Josh Galloway and Charlie Barnes both returned to training this week. The Galabank boss, Peter Murphy, knows that every game in League Two will be a stern test.
Murphy said: “East Fife have had a bit of a stop start season at the start of their league campaign, but it will still be a tough one for us.
“To be fair, like most of the teams in this division, apart from Dumbarton, everyone can beat everyone else.
“Dumbarton are on a bit of a roll to start with but I don’t foresee that lasting, but I could be wrong.”
The manager also provided an update on the injury front, adding: “We have been boosted with Josh Galloway and Charlie Barnes returning to training this week, while Aidan Smith was jogging after being out for four or five weeks with a hamstring injury.
“Steven Swinglehurst also has a hamstring strain and I think we are still going to miss him for this Saturday’s game.”
Meanwhile, it’s another massive match for the Doonhamers as they take on League One surprise package FC Edinburgh at Palmerston on Saturday.
The Dumfries men have endured a poor start to life in the third tier where they have only won one of their six opening matches.
And gaffer Wullie Gibson, left, knows his side must improve their performances at home and start climbing the table.
He said: “It’s a massive home game on Saturday. We’ve underperformed at home this season and we have to put that right.
“Edinburgh are newly promoted and some people can overlook that and think they are just going to make up the numbers or be happy to avoid relegation.
“But they are up there and challenging. For how long they continue to do that, I don’t know but I’m under no illusions about how hard the game is going to be on Saturday.
“We’ve had a good week of training and have just got to go out there and put previous performances behind us and kick on.”
n Annan play East Fife on Saturday at Galabank, while Queen of the South face FC Edinburgh at Palmerston – both games 3 pm kick off.
FC Edinburgh visit Dumfries again next Thursday in the SPFL Trust Trophy with a 7.45 pm kick off.
