SUPPORT payments to help with the cost of living crisis are now being sent to 9300 households in the region.
Dumfriesshire residents are amongst seven million across the UK who will receive £326 this week, with a second instalment of £324 due later in 2022.
It is part of the UK Government’s £37 billion support package.
In addition, eligible residents can receive a one-off £150 disability payment in autumn and eligible pensioners will get an extra £300 from Winter Fuel Payments in November and December.
Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell commented: “With the cost of living rising for local people here in Dumfriesshire, just as it is across the rest of the country, it is very welcome that the first of these support payments are starting to be delivered.
“Whilst it is impossible for any government to solve every problem, the absolute priority right now is to help the millions of families who are struggling with the cost of living and these payments will help ensure this is the case.
“However, welcome as these payments are, I am in no doubt that there will be a need for more support over the longer term. In particular, I want to see urgent further action to curb the cost of fuel and I am continuing to lobby Ministers over this.”
