Houses evacuated in gas scare

A NUMBER of residents in Gretna's Raeburn Crescent area were today evacuated from their homes following a suspected gas leak.

Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sealed off the area after the alarm was raised around 10 am.

Gas engineers from the public utility later arrived on the scene to assess the situation.

Update: A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “The gas board personnel worked to isolate the leak and carry out repairs and have since given residents permission to return to their homes.”
