Hunt for missing man

SEARCHES are taking place in Dumfries today for a man who has gone missing from a hospital facility in the town - with the public being warned not to approach him.

Police are looking for him in the Midpark and Maidenbower areas after he went missing from the Midpark centre.

A helicopter has also been drafted in to help and townsfolk have reported it circling above Calside and other parts of the town. A nearby primary school called off their sports day and parents were sent text messages telling them to pick up their children from class.
The missing man is described as being black, of Asian appearance, skinny build, about five foot seven tall with short curly hair – see photo below.
Any sightings of him should be reported to police on 999, however officers ask that he is not approached.

Giving an update via social media, a police spokesman this afternoon said: “We do not believe this man is armed at this time. We are searching for him as a missing person and are concerned for his welfare.”

And Dumfries and Galloway Council also posted a statement: “We are aware that Police Scotland are dealing with an ongoing situation in Dumfries regarding a missing person. As a precaution, some of our schools in the vicinity of Georgetown and Noblehill kept pupils in at the end of school today. All pupils have now gone home.”
