Ice Bowl volunteer call

VOLUNTEERS are needed for the world championships ice hockey event at Dumfries Ice Bowl in January.

The organising committee of the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship event being held at Dumfries Ice Bowl in January is on the lookout for volunteers to fill essential roles during the championships.

The event takes place from January 20 to 28 with Great Britain, Australia, Netherlands, Latvia, Turkey and Mexico all taking part.

And there are a number of roles available including drivers, goal judges, statistics assistants, video camera operators, game operations assistants and others. The local community and people from further afield are encouraged to make enquiries. Training for some of the technical roles can be provided.

Cllr Archie Dryburgh said: “The council really wants to celebrate the championships with the local community, and becoming a volunteer is a great way to be a part of a world class sporting occasion.

“Ice hockey is a thrilling live sport to enjoy and we want to continue the excellent work that has been started at the previous championships at Dumfries Ice Bowl.”

Brian McMeeken has volunteered at previous events, he said: “It’s great to be part of a world class event in my local town as it’s something that doesn’t come around very often.

“The thing I like best is the atmosphere that is created and we get well looked after by the organising team in Dumfries. I would encourage anyone to give it a go.”

If you are interested in volunteering your time at this event, please get in touch with Struan Tonnar directly at the Ice Bowl or by email: [email protected]
