Ice hockey comes to town

A NATIONAL ice hockey competition is coming to the region this weekend and the schedule for the event has been confirmed.

The Under-20 National Finals, which take place at Dumfries Ice Bowl on May 7 and 8 will see the top two teams from Scotland and England do battle in the semi-finals on the Saturday, followed by the final the next day.
Qualification for the Ice Hockey UK National Finals has come from the Scottish Ice Hockey Association (SIHA) and English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) under-20 domestic leagues.
Fife Falcons and Solway Sharks are the SIHA representatives, while Sheffield Scimitars and Billingham Stars qualify from the EIHA leagues.
The weekend kicks-off with the Sheffield Scimitars versus Fife Falcons at 2:30 pm on Saturday, followed by Billingham Stars versus Solway Sharks at 7 pm.
On Sunday, the day warms up with under-11s Scotland East versus West at 12 noon and the grand final at 3 pm.
