The directors of Lockerbie Ice Rink yesterday announced that the decision had been taken to keep the doors closed until October 2021.
In a statement, an ice rink spokesman said: “It was a difficult decision to make but it was an inevitable consequence of reduced income coupled with increased expenditure.
“We could have taken the financial risk, but the health risks had to be considered as well, as we are sandwiched between two high risk areas in Cumbria and the Central Belt.
“We will now be concentrating on securing the long-term future of the ice rink to ensure we return in 2021 in a strong position for hopefully better times to come.
“We would like to thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you and your members back at the ice rink next season.”
