Improvements made at Moffat care home

A MOFFAT care home has made improvements following an inspection.

Bankfoot House – a care home service registered to provide care to a maximum of 25 older people – was praised by the Care Inspectorate for making positive changes.

This included the home’s staff, which was upgraded from ‘adequate’ to a ‘good’ standard.

Inspectors noted that staff members had been recruited well, arrangements were right and staff worked well together.

Key messages from the report included inspectors “observing kind and caring interactions between people living at the home and the staff team”.

They noted that the provider was carrying out safe recruitment and staff were receiving one-to-one supervision and that personal plans and completion of six-monthly reviews continued to be areas for improvement. Also, the quality assurance within the service had improved.

The report stated: “We re-evaluated this key question from adequate to good, where several strengths impacted positively on outcomes for people and clearly outweighed areas for improvement.

“During this visit, we found the provider and registered manager had reviewed the quality assurance system and how this was implemented within the care home.

“During this inspection, we found improvements had been made and the registered manager was able to evidence that safe recruitment was being followed.

“Staff recruitment files were well presented, an index and checklist were in place and being completed.

“We were able to view the safety checks that had been completed and returned satisfactorily prior to staff commencing employment. In the absence of one piece of information, the registered manager had completed a risk assessment, which we viewed.

“We concluded that the recruitment practice in place will help to keep people safe.”

Inspectors added that the home had met two requirements and one area for improvement. Three areas for improvement were continued.

Bankfoot chairman of board of directors, David Booth said: “We are pleased that the Care Inspectorate recognises the improvements that we’ve made at Bankfoot and that this is reflected in the inspection report.

“Recognising that we need to continue to prioritise our administrative processes and record keeping, we have an action plan in place.

“We know that that the care we provide to our residents is high quality and that they are happy. Our staff team is skilled, caring, well supported and professional.

“Working closely with the families of our residents and local health professionals, we also know that our services are valued and well regarded.”
