DUMFRIES Camera Club is holding an exhibition of photography by members from next week.
Their work will be on display at ‘The Usual Place’ café in Dumfries from Monday, running until Friday October 11 – including some of the images featured here.
Club members have produced a variety of pictures for the exhibition and they will be for sale as part of a fundraising campaign.
There is also a film show of the kind of photography that the members have produced over the past nine years. This will be running quietly in the background.
Dumfries Camera Club has now been on the go for 77 years and includes many experienced amateur photographers in its ranks, giving newbies lots of scope to gain knowledge from them.
Spokesperson Margaret Elliot said: “We invite speakers to visit the club to tell us about and show us their work. The visiting judges discuss our work, and in turn this helps us develop in our skills.
“The club is open for all levels of experience, so why not come and see what we are about. We hold our meetings on Wednesday nights at Gracefield Arts Centre Edinburgh Road from 7.30 – 9.30. A good night’s entertainment for £5 per night until you decide to join. All visitors welcome.” On October 2 the visiting speaker will be Lynda Haney from the Wigan 10 Camera Club.
She said: “My photographic interests are wide and varied but my inspiration comes, mostly, from the beauty and diversity of the natural world, however I do like the challenge of photographing many diverse subjects.
“In general, my main photographic interest is wildlife, but I also enjoy using creative lenses to capture the natural world in a more abstract way.”
