Injury-hit Anna set for Euros

EUROPE’s curling elite are in Glasgow over the next week for the much anticipated 2016 Le Gruyère AOP European Curling Championships.

And Olympic medalist and Lockerbie girl Anna Sloan, above, is back in action and fighting fit for the competition as she returns to the Olympic medal-winning side after battling a knee injury and surgery over the summer months.

A total of 26 men’s teams and 20 women’s teams are taking part, with round robin play commencing on Saturday ahead of the medal games next weekend.

Unfortunately Lockerbie’s other curling star, David Murdoch, will not be competing after missing out on the chance to represent Scotland to Team Brewster.

Expressing her excitement and delight at being back in the lineup, Anna said: “It feels amazing to be back competing again.

“I really wanted to make sure I was 100 per cent ready for being back for Euros on our home ground.”

She explained the team is feeling bouyed up at the thought of having crowds of home supporters.
