Introducing Benjamin

Hello from London! My name is Benjamin Schiller, and I will be contributing to the paper for the next three months.

I am a university student from the United States, who is doing a study abroad programme in London for the spring term. I attend Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, where I am currently in my third-year pursuing an undergraduate degree in broadcast and digital journalism. I am originally from a city in South Florida, which is about one hour away from Miami.

I have been covering current events and reporting the news since I was ten-years-old. My passion for telling stories began with sports reporting, but quickly shifted to news and politics. Journalism is a public service to me, as covering the news could impact one’s daily life. I am always looking for ways to give a voice to someone who has something important that needs to be shared.

I’ve been reporting professionally for a couple of years now. I recently spent my prior summer in New York City, working for CNN. I had the opportunity to write ten published stories for CNN’s main webpage. I enjoyed my time at CNN because I had the opportunity to give a voice to people who had interesting stories that needed to be told to a worldwide audience. I have also worked for other US based media companies, including International Policy Digest, News Not Noise, The Daily Orange, and Scholastic Kids. I also report on TV and produce newscasts for my university’s television station, CitrusTV.

In my free time, I enjoy watching my favorite Miami sports teams compete in baseball, basketball, and American football. I also enjoy traveling to new places and trying different foods.

I am new to the United Kingdom, and I want to know what you think should be covered in the Lockerbie area. Please feel free to say hello and pitch any story ideas you may have in mind. The best way to reach me is by email at [email protected] or by Twitter at @Bsschiller.

Thank you for welcoming me into your community for the next few months and I am excited to get to work!
