Jail for banned motorist

A MOTORIST who was banned from the road for life 16 years ago has this week been jailed for six months by the sheriff at Dumfries after making his 12th appearance for driving while disqualified.

In court on Monday, Jason Gilmour, 35, of Balmoral Avenue, Dumfries, admitted taking and driving away a car from Nithsdale Mills in the town at the weekend, driving in Brooms Road while banned and using a car without insurance.

Solicitor Roger Colledge said Gilmour had foolishly taken a friend’s car when asked by the friend’s mother to get some groceries for her.
Sheriff George Jamieson imposed the jail sentence and another ban of two years.
